Converting methane (CH 4 ) to oxygenates with high yield and high oxygenates selectivity using O 2 remains a great challenge. In January’s issue of Nature Catalysis , Hutchings and colleagues reported that Au/ZSM-5 catalysts can oxidize CH 4 to methanol and acetic acid with minimal formation of CO 2 using O 2 alone.
