Abstract A high-silica zeolite KZ-1 with two different SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratios has been synthesized hydrothermally. Its sorption behaviour suggests it to be a medium-pore zeolite with 10-membered ring pore openings. The acid form of the sample with SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratio 108 showed good catalytic activity for the isomerization of m -xylene, whereas the one with ratio 173 had poor activity. Para -selectivity was very high. Platinum exchange of KZ-1 enhanced the stability of the catalyst. Comparison of results with those obtained on other medium-pore zeolites showed KZ-1 to have the highest para -selectivity.
