Although minute quantities of heavy metal ions are necessary for the living organisms. They play vital roles in biological, environmental, and chemical systems, but excessive amounts have a damaging effect on the organisms. The development of chemo-sensor is important for sensing and recognizing environmentally and biologically applications. The probes are invaluable for the dynamics of gene expression, protein expression, and molecular interactions in complex living systems. They are often used as scaffolds in biological labeling and turn-on fluorescence imaging. This review is a collection of research articles discussed in the context of the structural features of rhodamine derivatives organized according to their fluorescent core scaffold and with their representative applications.
