A novel N-acetylglucosamine-6-phosphatase deacetylase that is essential for chitin utilization in the chitinolytic bacterium, Chitiniphilus shinanonensis

We aimed to investigate the function of an unidentified gene annotated as a PIG-L domain deacetylase (cspld) in Chitiniphilus shinanonensis SAY3. cspld was identified using transposon mutagenesis, followed by negatively selecting a mutant incapable of growing on chitin, a polysaccharide consisting of N-acetyl-d-glucosamine (GlcNAc). We focused on the physiological role of CsPLD protein in chitin utilization.
