The recent rise of numerical fire modeling has revealed the performance of building fire safety and code. However, high-fidelity fire simulation is costly and difficult to analyze. This chapter introduces the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for building fire safety design and a demonstration software of Intelligent Fire Engineering Tool (IFETool). By training massive numerical fire modeling data, this AI tool can resolve the spatiotemporal features and hidden correlations in transient fire developments, so it can facilitate the performance-based design and review processes. This AI tool can predict the response time of ceiling-mounted heat detectors and sprinklers more accurately under dynamic fire scenarios. It can also assess the fire performance of common large-open building spaces and identify the design limits within seconds. The proposed AI design approach could be continuously upgraded to address more building fire scenarios and eventually achieve an intelligent building fire safety design.
