Catalyst free, one-pot green synthesis of 2-aryl-2-oxazoline derivatives from aryl nitrile using ionic liquid

A catalyst free methodology for the synthesis of 2-aryl-2-oxazoline derivatives under conventional heating using ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([bmim]Br) as neutral reaction media is described. Various aryl nitriles condensed with 2-aminoethanol was studied to afford corresponding products in good to excellent yields in short reaction time. This method is operationally simple, green, and easy workup procedure.
