Abstract A novel, sensitive, and highly selective fluorescent probe which contains 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole receptor groups has been prepared for detecting glutathione (GSH) that operates under aqueous conditions. The complex of the fluorescent compound with copper(II) ion was selectively responsive to GSH and induced a recovery of blue fluorescence.
