Study on synthesis and chemical structures of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride

The synthesis of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride was investigated. The effect of the ratio of 1-methylimidazole and n-butyl chloride,reaction time and temperature etc. were discussed. The result showed that the optimum conditions are the molar ratio of 1-methylimidazole to n-butyl chloride is 5∶ 7,the reaction temperature is 80 ℃ and the reaction time was 40 h. According to the infrared spectra,the synthetic product is 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride.
