Drug Pricing and Control for Pharmaceutical Drugs

The pharmaceutical sector is a key contributor to global wealth and health through the supply of life-saving drugs. An increase in patient population accounts for the rising demands for therapeutic solutions that are available. Success in drug discovery is not entirely definite as there has been increasing difficulty in finding novel therapies for chronic diseases. This is a challenge for healthcare systems and society as there has been a constant need for viable and sustainable medical solutions to address the ever-growing clinical cases. Nonetheless, incremental discharge of highly innovative therapies is expected to streamline the healthcare system as it positively impacts drug pricing and access models. This chapter reviews the drug pricing policies, while evaluating the mechanisms used by the various drug plans.
