Noncovalent interactions play an increasingly essential role in manipulating the photophysical properties of poorly conjugated luminogens, especially in the aggregate and solid states. In a recent study published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, McGonigal, Jones, Moggach, and co-workers provide solid structure-property evidence on how subtle structural changes and noncovalent interactions colorize the photophysical properties of fluorescent organic molecular rotors under high pressure.
