The dynamics of globalization and multilateralism of the recent decades fuel a rising demand among politico-economic stakeholders such as governments, donors, and investors to methodically appraise and systematically evaluate the performance of international institutions in a general sense and regionalism specifically. This implies the assessment of the success or failure of regional organizations (ROs) and endeavours related to regional integration, particularly in scholarly neglected regions in the Global South or those deemed as peripheral. It is noteworthy in this regard that the ongoing academic discourse and scientific research concerning the analysis and explanation of regionalism performance appear to be substantially shaped by perspectives and conceptualizations originating from the Global North, particularly in relation to research on the European Union (EU).
