Chemical Constituents from the Roots of Rhododendron spiciferum

Fifteen compounds were isolated from the roots of Rhododendron spiciferum by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography.The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral characteristics and identified as:(-)-lyoniresinol(1),(+)-cyclo-olivil(2),(-)-lyoniresinoL-9-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(3),(-)-lyoniresinol-9-O-β-D-xylopyranoside(4),eucryphin(5),3,5,7-trihydroxychromone-3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside(6),naringenin(7),eriodictyol(8),taxifolin(9),catechin(10),trans-taxifolin-3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside(11),engelitin(12),trans-taxifolin-3-O-α-L-arabinofuranoside(13),taraxerol(14),taraxerol acetate(15).Compounds 1-6,8,9 and 13-15 were obtained from Rhododendron spiciferum for the first time.
