Effects of Sodium Taurochenodeoxycholate and Sodium Taurocholate on Cholesterol Absorption in the Rat

This paper deals with the effect of dietary sodium taurochenodeoxycholate and sodium taurocholate on cholesterol absorption in the rat. Animals fed a stock diet containing 0.16% cholesterol exhibited a significant increase of cholesterol absorption when taurocholate (0.5%) was added to this diet. In contrast, cholesterol absorption did not increase when taurochenodeoxycholate (0.5%) was incorporated into the stock diet. Liver and plasma cholesterol concentrations were elevated in the taurocholate-fed animals in comparison with control animals or those receiving dietary taurochenodeoxycholate.
