Management of Stored-Tobacco Pests, the Cigarette Beetle (Coleoptera: Anobiidae) and Tobacco Moth (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), with Methoprene

Methoprene, a synthetic juvenile hormone analogue (JHA), has demonstrated the capability of preventing the larval forms of the cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricome (F.) and the tobacco moth, Ephestia elutella (Hübner), from developing into normal pupae or adults. When applied directly to tobacco materials at a concentration of 10 ppm, just before warehouse storage, the JHA has prevented the emergence of adult L. serricorne for a period of 4 years.
