Cold water flooding is an approach in the exploitation of heavy oil reservoirs, but the fingering of injected water is serious due to the high oil-water viscosity. Hot water flooding can effectively reduce crude oil viscosity and improve oil displacement efficiency. In this study, using dynamic analysis and numerical simulation, a reasonable technical limit for hot water flooding in ordinary heavy oil reservoirs was put forward after optimizing reservoir thickness, well pattern, well spacing, well type, hot water injection timing, hot water injection temperature and injection-production ratio. According to the result, it is favorable to carry out hot water flooding in the area with a thick oil layer, 176 m well spacing, five-point well pattern for development, concentrated horizontal wells and low water cut, high water injection temperature and an injection-production ratio of 0.9, so as to improve oil recovery. The proposed reasonable technical limit of hot water flooding is expected to effectively improve the reservoir exploitation and guide the field production.
