摘要
Consumer demands have led cosmetic formulators in search of innovative solutions for long-wear cosmetics. Balancing adhesion and cohesion of films without compromising comfort is a true technical challenge. In this chapter, use of silicone film-forming materials that provide non-transfer and comfortable films for long-wear cosmetics is discussed. Commercially available advanced silicone materials, including silicone resins, hybrid organic-silicone acrylates and ionically modified silicones, are reviewed in detail. Two key aspects that are required in the development of a good non-transfer film-former, i.e., adhesion to skin and cohesion to resist shear, are examined. Highlighting such a correlation between physicochemical properties and performance will likely guide the development of next-generation of film-formers for use in the creation of long-wear cosmetics.
