Chapter 13 describes the genesis of competitive adsorptive separation of xylene isomers and how this led to the first application of the Parex process in 1971, the world's first commercial-scale adsorptive separation process for purifying and recovering para -xylene. The chapter goes on to highlight the advances in Parex technology that have been made over the years, resulting in its use in more than 70% of the world's para -xylene production for fiber, resin, and film applications.
