摘要
Extracellular vesicles (EVs), as natural nanovesicles, play significant roles in cellular physiological and pathological activities, especially in cell-to-cell communication. Recently, EVs have been utilized as novel nanoplatforms for various biomedical applications. In this chapter, we will focus on EV- or artificial nanovesicle-based therapeutics in the treatment of major diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, cancer, respiratory diseases, and metabolic diseases. Meanwhile, biomaterials (such as hydrogels, scaffolds, and microneedles) that have been developed to further enhance the efficacy of EVs will be introduced. After that, this book chapter will also discuss the challenges and opportunities in the development and clinical translation of EV-based therapeutic agents.
