Transannular Addition of Methyllithium to 5,12:6,11‐Di[1,2]benzenodibenzo[a,e]cyclooctene and Its 5,6‐Epoxy Derivative

Deviations from the usual reaction pattern of strained olefins and epoxides occur in the reactions of the title compounds with methyllithium. Thus, for example, the indene derivative 2 forms in a nucleophilic, transannular homo-1,4-addition from 1; an analogous transannular substitution takes place for its epoxide.
