Steroidal saponins from the roots of Asparagus adscendens Roxb and Asparagus racemosus Willd

Phytochemical constituents of Asparagus adscendens and Asparagus racemosus are being reported in the present communication. Two new sarsasapogenin glycosides have been isolated, one from each of the species. Structure elucidation of 1 and 10 has been accomplished through the extensive use of ID- and 2D-NMR experiments including 'H-'H (DQF-COSY), 1 H- 13 C (HMQC, HMBC) spectroscopy along with mass spectroscopy. The reported glycosides have been given NMR assignments using ID- and 2D-NMR experiments. Further, compound 6 and 9 have been found in A. racemosus for the first time.
