Characterisation of a cDNA Encoding Fructokinase from Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)

Using an in vitro transcription/translation system, functional evidence has been obtained that a cDNA clone isolated from a potato stolon tip library encodes the enzyme fructokinase. Expression of the gene has been determined in a range of potato tissues at different developmental stages. The gene is shown to be present in low copy number in the potato genome and in the genome of related non-tuberising species.
