摘要
Professionalism in the tourism industry encompasses many of the same values and traits required in other sectors, with some notable differences. Leadership, proactivity, understanding disparate viewpoints, discerning and gathering relevant information, timeliness and reflexivity all need to be addressed in our curriculum. Two additional areas, unique to our sector, include managing the emotional labour requirements of the profession and functioning as a team member with various stakeholders, including, perhaps, competitors and guests. Fostering these skills and their associated values requires a curriculum model in which students learn to think on their feet, their actions shaped by reflection and critical thinking.
