In Brief The National Academy of Medicine has advocated for a new level of nursing leadership and recommends that efforts be made to "expand opportunities for nurses to lead and diffuse collaborative improvement efforts." This article provides an overview of the literature published between 2008 and 2018 to showcase the impact of nurse leaders on nursing and patient outcomes.
