When an Electrode Operates Beyond Electrolyte Stability Limits: Interphase

In this chapter, we extend the concept of the interface to another important component, the interphase, which is a new and independent phase between the electrode and electrolyte, and is the result of irreversible electrodic reactions between the two. The concept of the electrochemical stability window and its relation to the interface/interphase are also discussed.
