Abstract Mathematical Modeling and Simulation using LabVIEW and LabVIEW MathScriptSimulation exercises are integral part of the science, engineering, and technology programs.Simulation exercises provide verification of the basic theory and reinforcement of the underlyingprinciples; greater attention to the theoretical limitations; application of logical analysis to solvereal world problems. There are number of use of simulation, starting from simulation of simpleelectric circuits to complex tasks such as electromagnetic fields, heat transfer through materials,modeling and evaluation of energy systems, networking, computer circuits, game programming,and electron flow in semiconductors or beam loading with the ultimate objective of providingillustrations of concepts that are not easily visualized and difficult to understand. Simulators arealso used as an adjunct to and in some cases (distance learning courses) as a substitute for actuallaboratory experiments. In many instances the student are required to verify their theoreticaldesign through simulation before building and testing the circuit in the laboratory. Studies showthat students who used simulation prior to conducting actual experiment performed better thanthe students who conducted the laboratory experiments without conducting simulation first.There is no doubt that simulation can’t replace the physical hands-on experience but simulationcan enhance the teaching and learning experience. LabVIEW and MatLab are currently used in anumber of science, engineering and technology programs and industries for simulation andanalysis. By introducing LabVIEW and MatLab to the existing laboratory facilities and course(s)the students can be well trained with the latest design techniques and computer aidedinstrumentation, design and process control used throughout industry. This will also allow thestudents greater interaction with the subject matter and improve his/her skills in the use ofnumber of applied engineering software packages. MathScript in LabVIEW provides the m filefeatures of MatLAB. MathScript is used as a substitute to MatLAB in some institutions formodeling and simulation. This paper will discuss design and development of interactiveinstructional modules for Control Systems and Numerical Analysis Courses using LabVIEW andLabVIEW MathScript.
