The Superior Sagittal Sinus

The superior sagittal sinus (SSS) is one of the major intradural venous sinuses, and because it is involved in various disease processes, it must be considered in intracranial neurosurgery. The SSS lies in a shallow midsagittal depression at the junction of the falx cerebri, with the dura lining the inner table of the calvaria. Enlarging as it passes from the foramen cecum toward the internal occipital protuberance, the SSS receives the superior convexity veins. This chapter details the anatomy, variants, and clinical implications of this venous sinus.
