Depression Improvement From rTMS Facilitated by Subgenual Cingulate Engagement Indexed by Interleaved TMS/fMRI

The subgenual anterior cingulate cortex (sgACC) in depression has been a focus of brain stimulation treatments (DBS+rTMS). Our ongoing work using interleaved TMS/fMRI suggests that resting fMRI guided TMS can effectively modulate the sgACC. However, it remained unknown up to now whether engagement of the sgACC with TMS is specifically relevant to depression remediation.
