Oxygen self-diffusion coefficients have been determined for near-stoichiometric monoclinic zirconia exposed in an oxygen atmosphere at 300 mm. Hg. pressure at temperatures in the range 800–1000°C. These evaluations obeyed the equation: D(cm2sec) = 9.73 × 10−3exp − 56,000/RT. The results were interpreted by an anti-Frenkel type defect model, the transport number for oxygen ions being 4.5 × 10−3 at 990°C.
