The lignin is wood from Latin word-lignum and first appeared in literature by F. Schulze in 1965. Peter Klason regarded the lignin is a biopolymer of coniferyl alcohol units by ether linkages in 1897. However, the principal structures of lignin have been clarified largely because more and more informations about lignin structure obtained by modern analysis equipment and newly developed methods. This chapter will introduce basic knowledge about lignin structure and properties.
