Nucleation and growth of thin films

Abstract The theory of nucleation and growth of thin films is reviewed. The basic phenomena on the substrate have been described. Then follows the representation of the mathematical theories of the growth of thin films in the initial stage and the description of experimental studies. In the last section the influence of the structure of the substrate on the structure of the growing film is considered (epitaxy).
