In this issue of Chem Catalysis, Ramalingam et al. describe aliphatic C–C bond cleavage and functionalization of unactivated alcohols using a visible-light-active vanadium photocatalyst under ambient reaction conditions. This photoredox catalysis provides effective ways to functionalize various substrates, selectively ranging from simple alcohols to natural products.
