A Study of Mental Health Status of Students in a Certain Medical College in Yunnan Province

Objective To assess mental health status of medical students in a certain medical college in Yunnan Province,and provide evidence for implernenting mental health education among students.Method A study was conducted by using SCL-90 to evaluate students who enrolled in a certain medical college during 2001 to 2005 in Yunnan province.Results 22.25% of 7 321 students were at least one factor score≥1.8 among 9 factor scores of SCL-90.There were no significant differences between different gender,but differences among educational backgrounds,grades,only child and no only child.9 factors scores of medical college students were lower than standard model of Chinese college students,but higher than medical students of Chinese adults and the youth models.Conclusions Mental health status of students in a certain medical college in Yunnan Province were worse than Chinese adults and the youth but better than Chinese college students.Medical students should be further researched on mental health status and its influence factors to find the hints of mental health education of college students.
