Seven compounds including two previously unreported compounds (1 and 6) were isolated from Adenanthera pavonia. Structurally, compound 1 is a triglyceride. Compound 6 is 1,2-bis(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy) benzene. Compound 3,4,5 are homologous products of compound 1. Compound 2 and 7 are steroid and steroid glucoside, respectively. The structures of the isolates were established by analytical techniques. α-Glucosidase inhibitory activities of crude extracts were evaluated for 20 µg mL−1, 60 µg mL−1, 80 µg mL−1 level of concentrations. Petroleum ether extract exhibits significant α-glucosidase inhibition in the percentage of 79.01, 84.37, 86.16, respectively with comparison with other solvents. The percentage of the α-glucosidase inhibiting property of petroleum ether extract of A. pavonina seeds can be utilized to treat Type − 2 Diabetes Mellitus Isolated compounds can be a plant derived alternative for allopathic α-glucosidase inhibitors which has severe gastro intestinal adverse effects.
