Recent progresses in the target tracking technology have changed current unmanned systems into a realistic substitute to the conventional tracking systems. In this paper, existing algorithms on target tracking for both aerial and underwater application scenario are classified based on the active and passive modes of target tracking. These algorithms are analysed and compared in the form of mode, tracking technology and respective validation algorithm available in the literature.
