Application of team-based learning teaching method in the residents training of electrocardiography

Objective To study the efficiency of team-based learning (TBL) teaching method in the residents training of electrocardiography. Methods In 2016, 38 residents from The First Clinical Medical College, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University were randomly divided into 6 groups, 3 groups were experimental groups, other 3 groups were control groups. TBL was used in experimental groups and traditional lecture-based learning (LBL) was used in the control groups. The final exam scores of probation were compared between experimental and control groups. For the experimental group, students' performance in the TBL lessons and their feedback towards TBL teaching after lessons were recorded. Results The theory exam average results of the experiment group were better than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant(t=4.398, P<0.001); The image reading exam average results of the experiment group was better than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant(t=3.202, P=0.002). The results of questionnaire survey showed that TBL teaching method is well received among the residents. Conclusions The TBL teaching method can improve the self study capacity, the communication and expression capacity in ECG teaching.
