Preparing Process of ZL101A Alloy by Vacuum Casting and Its Properties

The The automotive castings such as bracket and mechanism case are prepared mainly by the traditional melting in atmosphere and sand gravity casting process at present,which has the problems of many casting defects and low comprehensive properties.The ZL101A alloy casting was prepared by melting in graphite crucible and pouring with argon protection and solidifying in metal mold.Its mechanical properties of as-cast and after different T6 heat treatment were tested and its microstructure was observed.The results show that the hardness of casting prepared by vacuum casting was HB68.5,the strength and elongation are 178 MPa and 4.7% respectively,which are increased by 2.1%,9.2% and 14.6% separately compared with those of the casting prepared by the traditional atmosphere casting process.Its hardness,strength and elongation even reach HB117,329 MPa and 8.5%,respectively after 535 ℃×8 h solution+180 ℃×3 h aging.The as-cast structure of the casting mainly consists of α-Al primary phase while eutectic phase occupies relatively small percentage and Si mainly distributes with grey skeleton in the eutectic phase.The alloy prepared by vacuum casting has excellent comprehensive properties under the experimental conditions.
