摘要
Species of the bacterial genus Staphylococcus are classified clinically based on their ability to produce the enzyme coagulase which clots plasma by binding to prothrombin, facilitating the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. Many coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), including Staphylococcus epidermidis, are found on the skin and primarily function as human commensals. S. epidermidis is a Gram-positive facultative anaerobe that is universally found on humans and is ubiquitously present on the skin and frequently found in the nasopharynx.
