The passion and obsession of researchers to advance the drug delivery patch design has been accompanied by the vigorous development of new materials, sensors, as well as integrated circuits. We systematically recorded the latest research progress of drug delivery patches, from perspectives of drug carrier materials, the motivation unit, the transfer device, and the feedback module. Their applications and challenges are also discussed. Drug administration is an indispensable part of human life and human society. Delivery patch provides a comfortable and convenient manner to treat various diseases with minimal interference to everyday life. The passion and obsession of researchers to advance the delivery patch design has been accompanied by the vigorous development of new materials, sensors, as well as integrated circuits. A piece of slim drug delivery patch is expected to be interactive, accurate, biofriendly to human tissues, and ultimately, to effectively cure. The delicate design and the high demand of functional integration of the delivery patch can rival a precise and versatile chip in some sense. In this review we document the latest development of delivery patch and recount its sub-parts of drug carriers, motivation unit, transport devices, and feedback units. Subsequently, the application scenarios of these drug delivery patches are recorded. Finally, we discussed the challenges and prospects for the further development of drug delivery devices. We hope that this manuscript inspires and promote further development of drug delivery devices, and provide better treatment services for various diseases.
