Design and analysis of ophthalmic progressive addition lenses

Progressive addition ophthalmic lenses (PALs) are gaining wider acceptance among consumers to remedy presbyopia, the gradual loss of visual accommodation with age. PALs were originally introduced in the 1950s as an alternative to bifocal and trifocal designs. PALs allow continuous accommodation for objects over a range of distances (instead of at discrete distances).
