摘要
The modern-day aviation sector has become an inevitable part of daily life due to swift travel needs, and global connectivity. This lead the aviation sector with 2% anthropogenic CO2 emissions at present and tends to manifolds shortly. Several uncertainties such as oil prices, energy security, GHG emissions, and aviation enactments were prime sufferings of aviation industry. These limitations spurred the development of alternative, viable, eco-sustainable fuels and their production pathways. Research on biomass to bio-jet fuels is of the latest importance the globe is looking around. However, concern araises in producing from renewable sources, with low GHG emissions, sustainable, and affordable price. Decades of intense research by various streams of society have finally paid off in finding suitable sources, and methodologies. A clear transformation is visible in the aviation sector migrating towards renewable fuels (bio-based jet fuels) resting the fossils dependency. Further, the initative of "The International Air Transport Association (IATA)" replacing the conventional fuels with bio-hydrocarbon 'drop-in' fuels which are fully interchangeable, compatible with ASTM standards, needs no modification to the current fueling infrastructure will be a game-changer. Thus, the current study outlines the feasibility of feedstock, technologies, upgrading possibilities, challenges, and futuristic directions of renewable jet fuels.
