Electrochemical α-hydroxylation of aryl ketones with methanol as the oxygen source

We developed an electrochemical method for direct α-C(sp 3 )–H hydroxylation of aryl ketones using methanol as an oxygen donor and Br − as redox mediators. Notably, the use of CD 3 OD enables direct synthesis of α-deuterated hydroxyketones.
