Hydrophobically modified ethoxylated urethanes (HEUR) has often been used in paint fabrication to adjust rheology, prevent cracks, and improve resistance to sag. However, in water-based coatings, organic solvents are often used as film-forming aids and co-solvents. These solvents will greatly weaken the thickening performance of HEURs. Herein, we adopt one-step polymerization to prepare silicon modified HEUR with good solvent stability and anti-organic-solvent performance. FTIR spectroscopy and H-NMR were used to evaluate the chemical structure of HEUR. Aggregation behavior, rheological behavior, thickening performance and anti-solvent performance were conducted to assess the performance of HUER. It was found that HEUR modified with 1,3-bis(3-aminopropyl) tetramethyldisiloxane displays an excellent behavior to resist organic solvents.
