Materials for Opto-Electronics

Materials used in various opto-electronic devices are gaining tremendous attention due to their promising applications found in photo-cathodes, phosphors, light emitting diodes (LEDs), displays, lasers, integrated optical circuits (IOC) etc. Today scientists all over the world are putting in immense effort in examining the properties of these materials in order to discover other possible applications in the field of opto-electronics and to optimise their applications in the fields that are already well-known. A brief survey of the materials for opto-electronic devices is being presented in this talk. An indication of futuristic trends in the development of these materials has also been given.
