In the December 21, 2022 issue of Cell Reports Physical Science, Dastidar et al. report a Janus-structured cellulosic film that reflects most of the sunlight in a dry state and switches to absorbing sunlight for rapid water evaporation in a wet state. The property of self-adaptive solar-driven drying of this material is attractive and makes it applicable to thermal management and optical sensing.
