The field of imaging informatics is a subfield of biomedical informatics that combines medical physics with computer, clinical, and cognitive sciences. In this session jointly sponsored with the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine, we will provide an overview of the field starting with the highly applied role of information technology working with imaging modalities to research areas in computer vision, annotation markup, and semantic ontologies that can leverage machine encoded reasoning systems. We will highlight new technologies that are beneficial to medical physicists conducting research as well as translating research into clinical practice.
