A Study on Feature Extraction and Classification for Tongue Disease Diagnosis

Image processing performs several operations to extract valuable information. Medical diagnosis is the process of finding which disease or condition that matches the person symptom and signs. Diagnosis is the demanding one as many signs and symptoms are inexact. Tongue diagnosis is a crucial diagnostic technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The internal state of body and organ health are identified through the diverse features of tongue namely colors and shapes of the tongue. The feature extraction process is employed to extract useful data characteristics from the input images by removing the irrelevant and redundant data. However, the improvement in data dimensionality poseses several challenges to efficiency. Also, diagnosis performance gets reduced. To address these problems, the existing feature extraction and classification techniques are reviewed.
