The graphitic nitrogen carbide/alpha-iron oxide (g-C 3 N 4 /α-Fe 2 O 3 ) nanostructure is prepared by hydrothermal method. The g-C 3 N 4 /α-Fe 2 O 3 hybrid was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray (XRD). The hybrid material was deposited over interdigital sensing electrodes on a PET substrate. The prepared sensor exhibited excellent response characteristics for detecting H 2 S gas, which was superior than that of pure α-Fe 2 O 3 counterpart. The detection limit of the sensor for H 2 S gas is 0.5 ppm at room temperature. Moreover, the g-C 3 N 4 /α-Fe 2 O 3 sensor has a higher selectivity over the interference gas species of SO 2 F 2 , CO, and SO 2 . The results suggest that the α-Fe 2 O 3 sensor is a good candidate for sensing decomposed SF6 products in environ and healthcare fields.
