摘要
The industrial use of adhesives based on natural resources as sole adhesives is scarce, and detailed information about such applications is even rarer. This chapter summarizes such applications of naturally-based adhesives as they have been implemented in industrial scale. This is especially the case with tannin used for the production of fiberboards. In addition, cases will be mentioned where at least a substantial proportion of the adhesive is based on natural raw materials, despite some remaining proportion of synthetic chemicals, either as crosslinkers or as component in the adhesive mix. Gradually new applications for Biobased adhesives as well as further Biobased compounds to be used as adhesives are reported. In most cases, these are applications within niche markets with small volumes. For a basic and consistent switch from synthetic to naturally-based adhesives still many questions need to be answered, such as performance of such Biobased adhesives and the secured availability of raw materials of consistent quality.
