The mid-infrared 2.8 µm band laser has broad application value and development prospects in the fields of medicine, biology, military and remote sensing. At present, MIR 2.8 µm band lasers are mainly produced by solid-state lasers, fiber lasers, semiconductor lasers and chemical lasers, etc. The pulse modulation methods for this band lasers include electro-optical Q-switching, acousto-optic Q-switching, passive Q-switching, mechanical Q-switching and FTIR Q-switching, etc. The main technical difficulty lies in the discovery and utilization of high-performance and high-quality Q-switching new materials. In this paper, the output methods and pulse modulation methods of 2.8 µm band laser are summarized, and its development situation and existing problems are analyzed and prospected.
