Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), described in humans as a chronic painful condition of muscle, has started to become acknowledged in the field of veterinary medicine. MPS is typically thought to arise from myofascial trigger points (MTrPs). An MTrP is a hyperirritable spot in skeletal muscle that is associated with a hypersensitive palpable nodule in a taut band. The spot is tender when pressed, and gives rise to characteristic referred pain, motor dysfunction, and autonomic phenomena. This chapter covers the principles of finding and treating myofascial pain. References ACVMSR ( 2015 ) Our Mission , [Online], Available: http://vsmr.org/ .
